Interview: Congress will sweep the elections: CM Channi

Chandigarh: Claiming that there is no opposition to challenge Congress in the Punjab Assembly polls, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is confident to sweep the elections.

“People liked my four months working and they would vote for development and betterment of the Punjab,” CM said in an exclusive interview.

He claimed that BJP is not even in the game and all their candidates will lose their security deposit while Akali would not be able to cross 20 seats this time.

He, however, felt that AAP is strong among opposition but won’t be able form the government with false propaganda and Congress will form the government again with a thumping majority.

On declaring CM face in Punjab, Channi said it was people’s demand that Congress must fight the elections with a CM face and considering the demand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also announced to name Congress’s CM candidate soon.

“I have never asked my party high command to name me as CM candidate. It is the party’s prerogative who it declares as the CM face and all leaders will support the decision,” he added.

Lashing out at Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Channi termed him a “venal” leader and using nefarious tactics to malign his image. “It is habit of making dubious allegations before polls and later he extend apologies. I have ignored his baseless allegations on several occasions but this time I am going to file defamation against him,” he said.
