Tokyo: Japan’s ruling party and its coalition partner, The Comateo, have registered a landslide victory in Sunday’s parliamentary election.
The Liberal Democratic Party and its ally Kometto won 146 seats in the 248-member House, well above the majority mark.
The victory has made it clear that Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will continue in office until 2025. This will allow Kishida to continue to work on policies for a long time.
Kishida welcomed the majority he got in the election but did not appear to be too happy because of Abe’s killing.
They have the big challenge of recovering from Abe’s killing and keeping the party united. Speaking to reporters, he said, “Party unity is more important than anything else. He said that working on issues such as tackling corona, Russia’s aggression on Ukraine and rising inflation are his main priorities.
He said Abe’s death was the most tragic at a time of security and economic challenges in Japan and beyond. We will fulfil his wishes,” Kishida said.
