OTTAWA: Ahead of the Federal Elections to be held on September 20, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday has lashed out at his main opponent and accused him of favoring restrictions on banning weapons.
During the two hours debate in French, Trudeau said O’Toole had targeted each other on various issues including on the gun lobby and assault weapons.
“Mr O’Toole refused to tell Canadians what he wants to do. He signs deals with special interest groups,” Trudeau said. “He is offering weak leadership … he can’t be trusted.”
O’Toole has been attacking Liberal party for calling for an elections amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Last week, he promised to eliminate a ban on some assault weapons.
Countering the attacks, Trudeau, however, termed the early election as a referendum on his handling of the pandemic but has struggled to overcome voter fatigue.
