Chandigarh: In an attempt to woo voters Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi announced that he is going to enact a law soon to ensure quota for locals in government and private sector jobs in Punjab.
“Employment generation figures high on our model for a government in 2022,” the CM said adding that he is consulting his legal team on job opportunities for Punjabis.
“Often candidates from neighbouring Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and even Delhi have been given jobs at the cost of locals. My effort are that one lakh vacant posts will be filled and more opportunities to be given to local youths. Also, minimum wages of skilled and unskilled workforce have been raised,” he said.
On sand and gravel continuing to be sold at rates higher than those fixed (Rs 5.50 per cubic feet) by his government, Channi hinted at setting up a government-monitored corporation to rein in the mining mafia in the event of the Congress retaining power. “We have brought down the rates four times. There are strict instructions to DCs and SSPs to ensure the rates fixed by the government are implemented.”
