Ottawa: Harman Singh has come to Canada three days ago, along with another boy standing in a queue outside service Canada’s office to get a social insurance number, but his number did not come.
The international student, who was standing outside Service Canada in Brampton, Ontario, said he had come here a day earlier at 11:00 a.m. but was told by security to leave because his turn was not going to come, so he came here once again at 5:00 a.m. today.
His story is not unique. Hundreds of people are seen queuing up outside this building every day. By noon many are asked to go back home as there is no hope of their turn coming.
Service For Passports Canada has been delayed for several months and Employment and Social Development Canada — which oversees service Canada’s operations — is ready to accept such a situation.
Service Canada expects the passport backlog to decrease by the end of the summer. Many international students are arriving in Canada as the new semester begins in September. Service Canada, in turn, urges everyone to get such documents online, but still students consider it good to get these documents in private by standing in queues.
