New Delhi: The Indian government has decided to increase the minimum age of marriage for women will be 21and not 18.
The the Union Cabinet on Wednesday cleared the government’s proposal, sources said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Independence Day last year had said that his government is constantly concerned about the health of daughters and sisters. “To save the daughters from malnutrition, it is necessary that they’re married at the right age,” he said during his speech.
Currently, the minimum age of marriage for men is 21 but for women, it is 18.
