Ottawa: Canada has confirmed 1,435 cases of monkeypox, with 42 hospitalisations announced. Of the confirmed cases, 684 are from Ontario, 524 from Quebec, 175 from British Columbia, 41 from Alberta, six from Saskatchewan, two from Yukon and one each from Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Canada’s public health agency said on Friday.
Monkeypox cases are low in Canada and 24 new cases have been reported for the last three weeks.
The second dose of Monkeypox vaccine is being administered in the country. The National Advisory Committee on Immunisation recommended using the Monkeypox vaccine as a preventive, two-dose vaccine for those at risk, with the second dose, only for those who do not have symptoms.
According to experts, monkeypox is a viral disease that can spread from person to person through close contact with an infected person, including hugging, kissing, massaging or intercourse.
