London: Birmingham Edgbaston MP Preet Kaur Gill has welcomed Air India’s plan to increase flights between Birmingham and India from 1 to 6 per week. Birmingham Edgbaston MP Preet Kaur Gill said, “I am happy to inform that 12 MPs from the West Midlands had written letters to Air India and also met the CEO of Birmingham Airport. Now the flights from Birmingham to India have been increased from one to six a week, which will greatly benefit the Punjabi community.”
On Friday, Air India said in a statement that it will be able to offer more than 5,000 additional seats per week to customers with five additional flights a week to Birmingham. It has said that nine flights will start from London and six from San Francisco.
Gill, along with 11 other MPs from the West Midlands, along with the large Punjabi and Sikh diaspora communities, had written to Birmingham Airport Chief Executive Officer Nick Barton seeking a review of the regular and direct flight from Birmingham to Amritsar.
“Increasing flights between Birmingham and India from 1 to 6 a week is great news and will also give a big boost to the aviation industry,” Gill said. She has said that this will greatly benefit the Punjabi community.
