Chandigarh: Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is serving a sentence in the Central Jail here in connection with a road rage case that took place in Patiala three-and-a-half decades ago, will be released on April 1.
A senior official of the jail department confirmed Sidhu’s release Saturday afternoon. Earlier, the Sidhu family had also claimed in a tweet that the former Punjab Congress president would be released from jail on Saturday, quoting the authorities concerned.
Cabinet minister Aman Arora has also separately confirmed this. Navjot Sidhu’s name was also under consideration in the list of prisoners to be released in advance on January 26 on the Republic Day under the policy of the Government of India based on ‘Azadi Da Amrit Mahotsav’, but under this policy, no one has been released in advance.
