Nearly 1 million Canadians likely to vote by mail

Ottawa: In this federal election, the number of Canadians expecting to exercise their rights of vote by mail is likely to be far lower than Elections Canada’s initial estimates.

Last month, it was predicted that a massive surge in mail-in ballor requests would be recorded as Canadians looked for alternative voting methods amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, the organization said.

The Elections Canada’s survey revealed that between two and three million people would vote by mail this year, up from about 50, 000 during the 2019 elections.

“Only one day has left for voters to request for special ballot voting kits, which can be submitted by mail. But the authorities have received 985,000 requests from Canadians. Around 52, 000 requests were made by Canadians living outside the country. Special ballots can also be dropped off at Elections Canada offices. They are also used for voting at places such as hospitals and prisons,” the officials informed.
