Toronto: Nordstrom Inc. is shutting down all its Canadian stores and laying off 2,500 employees.
Seattle-based Retail has six Nordstrom and seven Nordstrom rack stores in Canada, and on Thursday, the company announced the closure of all its Canadian stores by June this year. The company is also shutting down its e-commerce business.
Meanwhile, the company’s chief executive Eric Nordstrom said that the decision to close it in Canada was due to the regular evaluation done by the company.
In a statement, he said, “Despite all the efforts, we have not been able to find a profitable path to our Canadian business. Nordstrom is a department store chain that sells designer items. It first announced the expansion of business in Canada in 2012 and opened its first store in Calgary in September 2014 at the CF Chinook Center.”
The company then quickly opened its stores at the CF Rideau Centre in Ottawa, the CF Pacific Center in Vancouver, and the CF Eaton Center, the Yorkdale Shopping Center, and the CF Sherway Gardens in Toronto.
