Now thieves targeting parking lots near Pearson airport to steal catalytic converters

Ontario: An Ontario woman, who returned from a month-long trip, was shocked to find that her vehicle’s catalytic converter had been stolen. Her vehicle was parked in the parking lot of Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Thieves used to steal catalytic converters from the vehicles parked in the driveways, dealerships, now they have started stealing catalytic converters from the parking lots located near the airports. Thieves cut out the catalytic converter installed to reduce pollution in the vehicles because they contain very valuable platinum, rhodium and palladium. Thieves earn money by selling all these items in the black market.

Frank DeSair, vice president of marketing and sales, parking fly, who is responsible for parking outside the airport, said in a statement, “We perform the security of our customers’ vehicles very well. There are fences around our parking lots and they can be accessed only through the gate entry. 24/7 These parking lots of ours are monitored by our staff.

The woman said that the cost of replacing the catalytic converter in her vehicle could be $ 8,000 and she could get this part for up to three months.
