Ontario: Sylvia Jones, deputy premier and minister of health today announced that she is not ruling out privatization as the government considers ways to deal with a major staff shortage straining hospitals, but she stressed such a change wouldn’t be coming any time soon.

She said that the Canadian government is exploring different options in a bid to keep emergency departments from closing.

When asked if the government is considering privatization, Jones said “all options are on the table. We will explore other options.”

Interim NDP leader Peter Tabuns said that privatisation of health care would be a disaster for Ontario.

Ontario Opposition New Democratic Party health-care critic France Gélinas said it is a horrific to know that privatization is under consideration.
