Ontario: The Ontario New Democratic Party has officially forward the name of MPP Marit Stiles for conformation vote as its party’s provincial council on Thursday.
The party was supposed to vote on March 4 in terms of leadership, but due to Stiles only candidate left for the party leadership race, the party’s provincial council has decided to seal his name on February 4.
On February 21, when the winter break and the assembly resumes, Stiles will replace the party’s current interim leader, Peter Tabuns.
“The NDP needs to be firm in Ontario, and with Stiles becoming the party leader, our position will be very strong,” said NDP President Janelle Brady said in a statement.
He said, “We will be able to accelerate our movement, increase capacity in our community and give people new hope for the future.”
Andrea Horwath had stepped down as party leader after the party’s defeat in the provincial elections in June last year and since than Peter Tabuns has been acting as interim leader.
