Chandigarh: The CBI on Tuesday launched searches at 30 locations in Punjab as part of its probe into allegations of corruption against food corporation of India (FCI) officials.

The CBI teams, as part of ‘Operation Kanak 2’, conducted coordinated raids at the premises of grain traders, rice mill owners and retired FCI officials in several districts of Punjab, including Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib and Moga.

This is the second raid in connection with an FIR related to an organised group of officials at the FCI. It is alleged that the group took a bribe of Rs 1,000-4,000 per truck loaded in FCI warehouses per crop season, covering up the low quality food grains and other benefits supplied by private mill owners.

Later, the bribe amount was distributed among the officers from the lower level to the higher level.
