Ottawa: The decision to restore federal funding for Hockey Canada is being objected to by the opposition. Opposition leaders say that this decision is premature and no care has been taken for the safety of the victims.

On June 22, 2022, Sports Minister Pascale St-Onge suspended federal funding to controversial Hockey Canada. But just before the Canadian women’s hockey team’s final match against the United States on Sunday, the Sports Minister announced the restoration of federal funding for Hockey Canada.

Conservative MP Kevin Waugh said he was surprised that the sports minister had made such an announcement. He said that hockey Canada has not yet met all the conditions that were required to restore funding.

To some extent, they have taken steps in this direction, but Hockey Canada still has a long way to go. There was no need to restore funding so soon.

NDP MP Peter Julian also shared similar views. He said the decision was taken in haste. Hockey Canada has not yet met all the conditions so what was the need to start funding so soon.
