New Delhi: The controversial statement made by BJP leaders against Prophet Mohammed has sparked outrage in the Islamic nations, especially in West Asia and Gulf countries.

The 57-nation Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) has condemned the statement and urged the United Nations to take necessary steps to ensure the protection of Muslim’s rights in India.

The OIC said that derogatory words have been used about Prophet Muhammad during the insult to Islam and growing hatred against minorities in India.

They cited the ban on hijab in educational institutions in several indian cities and the decision to demolish properties of muslims, saying the attitude of the indian government has been biased towards the minorities. Meanwhile, Pakistan has summoned an official of the Indian mission and criticised the objectionable remarks made about the Prophet Mohammad.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif took to Twitter to condemn the insult of Prophet Muhammad by BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal. Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Jordan, Bahrain and Afghanistan joined the Arab states’ protest by condemning the controversial statements, insisting india respect all religions and demanding the government to publicly apologise. Earlier, Qatar, Kuwait and Iran had also attacked BJP government on Sunday to express their protest.

Earlier, the BJP had suspended Nupur Sharma and expelled Jindal from the party following growing resentment against India in West Asian and Gulf countries. Meanwhile, India has criticised the OIC’s statement, calling it narrow-minded, motivated, misleading and mischievous.
