Ottawa: Parents of the 21-year-old Punjabi girl, who was shot dead at a gas station in Mississauga on Saturday, say they regret sending their daughter to Canada on a student visa as a teenager.
They said that the dreams of giving their daughter Pawanpreet Kaur a better life and new opportunities were shattered by her killing at the Petro Canada station on CreditView and Britannia Roads.
Police said Pawanpreet was working in the night shift at the gas station when the incident took place. Speaking to the media, Pawanpreet’s mother Jasvir Kaur said, “We should never have sent our daughter to Canada for studies but kept it with us.”
Her father Davinder Singh said he had hoped that his daughter would be able to get quality education and take her other family members with her. When she was 18 years old, they sent her to Canada and he now regrets this.
Pawanpreet’s mother said that the police first informed her relatives in Brampton about her death and then they got the news in Punjab. Pawanpreet’s parents also demanded justice at the earliest.
Meanwhile, police said that suspect was seen walking on foot and then going on a bicycle. A photograph of the bicycle has also been released by the police. The bike has been recovered by the police but police say it too could have been stolen.
The police on Monday night also shared more details regarding the suspect.
Police said they believed the murder was aimed at Pawanpreet but were looking for the reason behind it.
