New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a programme in the Canadian city of Markham and he will also unveil a statue of Sardar Patel at the Sanatan Mandir Cultural Centre.
In his tweet, the PM Modi said, “At around 9 PM this evening, I will be sharing my remarks at a programme in Markham, Canada where a statue of Sardar Patel will be unveiled at the Sanatan Mandir Cultural Centre. This is a great initiative by our diaspora to deepen cultural linkages with India.”
The project began in 1985:
The Sanatan Mandir Cultural Centre (SMCC) is a temple and cultural centre that serves the Hindu community of the Greater Toronto region. According to the SMCC’s website, the SMCC project was started in 1985 by the Gujarat Samaj of Toronto to help, propagate and preserve Gujarati culture.
In order to preserve our values and traditions for generations to come, SMCC provides facilities for education, religious worship and social work for all ages, officials said.
