Ottawa: Canadian government has announced addition funding to combat the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic.
The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau said, “We are working to address barriers to COVID-19 vaccines with partners across the world and to make sure lower-income countries have the resources they require to fight against Covid-19. Therefore, we announced additional funding to help move this work forward.”
Since the start of the pandemic, the government had invested over $69 billion, with more funding to be rolled out in future years, to fight COVID-19 and ensure safety of Canadians, officials said.
The funding includes $1.2 billion to provinces and territories through the Safe Restart Agreement to bolster health care capacity, and over $600 million for innovative mental health care for Canadians while It $6.5 billion funds for Canada’s Health Transfer for provinces and territories support to tackle pandemic.
Meanwhile, federal government also announced that $140 million funds in two years to be provided, starting in 2022-23, for the Wellness Together Canada portal to support their mental health and well-being.
