Washington: US President Joe Biden has re-nominated nearly half a dozen Indian-Americans to key administrative positions. Their names could not be confirmed by the Senate during the previous Congress.
The 118th session of Congress began on Tuesday after senators were sworn in. Along with this, the election process of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives has also started.
Richard Verma is among the names re-nominated by Biden and sent to the Senate. His name was sent for the post of deputy secretary of management and resources.
Apart from this, Dr. Vivek Helger statue’s name has also been sent. His name has been recommended as the US representative on the Executive Board of the World Health Organization. Verma has also served as the US ambassador to India.
He is currently the Chief Legal Officer of Mastercard and head of the company’s global public policy. Murthy’s name was previously passed by the Senate as surgeon general in March 2021. Apart from these, Anjali Chaturvedi’s name has been sent to general council (Department of Veteran Affairs), Ravi Chaudhary’s name has been sent to Assistant Secretary-Air Force, Geeta Rao Gupta’s name has been sent to Ambassador for Women’s Issues and Radha Iyengar Plumb’s name has been sent to Deputy Under Secretary (Defense).
