President Biden to visit Canada on March 23

Ottawa: The US President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Canada on March 23 and 24. During this time, he will meet Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and will also address parliament.

This will be Biden’s first visit to Canada since becoming president in January 2021 and this was confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office and the White House on Thursday.

White House Press Secretary Karen Jean-Pierre said in a statement, “President Biden is committed to the United States-Canada partnership and will promote our shared security, shared prosperity, and shared values.”

Other issues on the agenda during the visit will include NORAD’s key role protecting North America, as well as modernising the Safe Third Country Agreement amid tensions arising out of irregular crossings.

In addition, issues such as supporting Ukraine and fixing Russia’s accountability, the Canadian United States Mexico Agreement (KASMA), sensitive mineral supply chains, climate change, instability in Haiti and the drug crisis are also expected to be discussed.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement that Canada and the United States are partners, neighbors and friends. “We are facing global instability and will continue to work together in today’s time. We urgently need to uphold our shared values and our top priority will be to provide new opportunities for the people on both sides of the border and strengthen the economy besides boosting business.” He said that he is very excited for President Biden’s visit to Canada.
