Prisoner thrashed, terrorist written on his back; Punjab govt orders probe

Chandigarh: In a shocking incident, a jail prisoner alleged that jail staff brutally thrashed him and later wrote “terrorist” on his back with a hot stick.
The prisoner has been identified as Karamjit Singh. Karamjit Singh is a resident of Samana.
Inmate claimed that jail superintendent brutally thrashed the inmates in the jail.
Following this, senior Akali Dal leader Maninder Singh Sirsa sought strict action into the matter.
He wrote, “This is disgusting and a serious violation of human rights. We demand strict possible action against officials involved @CHARANJITCHANNI Ji.”
Deputy CM orders inquiry into Barnala jail incident
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa issued order to conduct a thorough probe into the incident involving a prisoner of Barnala Jail.
Randhawa took serious notice after Karamjit Singh, a prisoner of Barnala jail during his hearing at Mansa court alleged that the jail staff had written objectionable words on his body.
Randhawa, who also holds charge of the jail department, directed ADGP (Jails) PK Sinha to conduct an in-depth inquiry into the matter and asked him to get done medical examination of the prisoner to ascertain the complete matter.
ADGP informed that DIG Ferozepur division Tajinder Singh Maur has been appointed as the investigating officer for the case and he will visit the spot on Thursday to probe the matter.
