Chandigarh: Former cabinet minister and senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia has been booked by the Punjab police on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in a drug case.

Sources in the police said the Majithia was booked by Punjab Bureau of Investigation in Banur police station on the basis of report submitted by Special Task Force headed by IGP Harpreet Singh Sidhu. FIR was registered under section 25/27A/29 of NDPC act.

The move came days after Punjab government appointed S chatopadhya, close to PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, as officiating DGP Punjab and reviewed the STF report.

Akali Dal, meanwhile, termed it a political motivated move ahead of polls.
