Chandigarh: The exacerbating the existing conundrum of electricity power shortage for Punjab State Power Corporation Limited in the state, the supply of power from two thermal plant units halted on Thursday morning.
As per the information, a unit in Lehra Mohabbat and Talwandi Sabo thermal plants stopped functioning on Thursday amid paucity of coal which has now added to woes of the state government as PSPCL faces power shortage yet again. Already a unit each of these two plants is shut.
“Currently, we have two 660MW units shut at Talwandi Sabo, 210 and 250MW unit at Lehra Mohabbat and a 210 MW unit at Ropar is also non-functional,” said a senior PSPCL officer adding that spending state government is spending a whopping Rs 250 crore in the first 10 days of October to buy electricity from the national grid to meet rising power demand.
