Punjabi-origin Sukhmanpreet becomes captain of British Columbia hockey team

Vancouver: The Under-16 field hockey team of British Columbia will be captained by Gurdaspur youngster Sukhmanpreet this time.

The provincial tournaments are scheduled to be held this time from July 30 to August 3, in which the 18-member hockey team comprising only three Punjabi youths will be captained by Sukhmanpreet Singh, son of Laddu Singh Khalsa, who came to Canada from Village Bahurian Sainian near Kahnuwan in Gurdaspur.

Laddu Singh pointed out that Sukhmanpreet had an interest in hockey since childhood. He said that one day his son will raise the name of Punjabis by winning a gold medal for Canada at the international level.

Sukhmanpreet Singh, a resident of Surrey, said that for many years he has been practicing continuously for four hours daily and today his dream of becoming the captain of the hockey team has come true.
