Brampton: A Man of Punjabi origin from Brampton, who hit another vehicle with his tractor trailer while escaping from police officers during a traffic stop, has been arrested and charged with multiple charges.

Peel Regional Police said that police blocked traffic after 9:30 a.m. on March 10 to stop a driver allegedly driving with a heavy tractor trailer in the No Heavy Truck Zone in the Dixie Road area on Williams Parkway in Brampton. Then when the police rushed to reach the driver, he tried to take his tractor trailer from there at full speed and succeeded. Keeping public safety in mind, the police could not control the driver.

Minutes later, police officers spotted the tractor trailer in the Queen Street area on Airport Road. After seeing the police, the driver started driving the truck recklessly. Some distance away, on Gorway Drive and Steels Avenue, the driver hit a vehicle and did not stop at the spot.

On March 20, investigators identified the driver as 28-year-old Lovepreet Singh of Brampton and issued a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody two days later.

He is facing several charges such as running away from the police, acting dangerously and not stopping after committing the accident. Police said Lovepreet has a history of hiring vehicles by giving fake identities.
