New Delhi: Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and World Championship bronze medallist Lakshya Sen made it to the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Masters Super 500 badminton tournament by winning their respective bouts on Thursday. The 20-year-old Lakshya of Almora, who was part of the Indian team during the historic title win at the Thomas Cup in Bangkok, defeated world number 13 Rasmus Gemke of Denmark 21-18 21-15 in 54 minutes.
The women’s singles Sindhu, however, had to struggle a bit. She defeated Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunzung 23-21 20-22 21-11 in the second round match that lasted an hour. Seventh seed Sen will face third seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the next round, who won three games against the Indian in the Thomas Cup in the only match between the two players so far last month.
