Sydney: A Qantas plane landed safely at Sydney airport after sending an ’emergency’ message. An alert was issued at the airport after the ‘engine failure report’. Ambulances were also prepared at Sydney airport for the Qantas aircraft in case of an “emergency”, a media report said.
The plane was carrying more than 100 passengers from New Zealand, a spokesman said. Ambulance services were readied after an emergency call from a Qantas plane at Sydney airport.
A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said of QF144 flying from Auckland that “paramedics had been called in.”
The Boeing 737-800 is a twin-engine aircraft and is capable of landing safely with just one engine.
According to the Australian government’s aviation regulator, a Mayday call indicates that an aircraft is in serious danger and needs immediate assistance.
