Rahul Gandhi won’t be allowed in Lakhimpur: Lucknow police official

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has denied permission to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his accompanying Congress leaders to Lakhimpur on Wednesday.

Police officials said that Gandhi will not be allowed to go to Sitapur or Lakhimpur as his visit might disturb law and order situation in the area.

Lucknow Police Commissioner DK Thakur confirmed that the government has not yet given permission for Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Lakhimpur and has asked him not to come.

Gandhi, while talking about his sister Priyanka Gandhi, who remains under preventive detention, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi  said that the party is not affected by manhandling and will continue to talk about the farmers.

Earlier, Gandhi said that he will try to visit Lakhimpur Kheri with two CMs today to meet families of victims. If the Union Minister’s son has not been arrested today, Congress will carry out march and coerce ruling BJP government to take action into this heinous crime,” he said.

Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who returned from Delhi after meeting Union minister Amit Shah, has been called to Delhi again by the high command as he will along with Chattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot and other senior leaders will be accompanying Gandhi to Lakhimpur.
