Ottawa: The RCMP has suspended a controversial contract with a Canadian company whose roots were linked to the Chinese government, said Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino’s office.

In October 2021, RCMP signed a contract worth USD 549,637 with Ontario-based Sinclair Technologies Inc. This contract was done for radio frequency filters but now it has been stopped.

Earlier, speaking to reporters, Mendicino said the RCMP was also investigating the equipment installed by the company. Further, whenever a contract is made with a company, especially one that has a connection with National Security, more special care will be taken.

After the contract came to light, the RCMP said that the radio communications of the National Police Force are absolutely safe and there is no threat to the country’s security with the Radio Frequency Filtration Equipment.

The RCMP also said that the contract was in accordance with the federal government’s procurement policies and regulations and was executed in accordance with trade agreements. It is pertinent to mention here that the rcmp contract alone was not signed by the federal government with Sinclair Technologies.

Several contracts worth more than $90,000 have been signed with the company. The company has been contracted by RCMP, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Department of National Defense.
