Relief For Bikram Majithia: Court granted protection from arrest till Feb 23

New Delhi: In a big relief for Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, the Supreme Court on Monday directed Punjab Police to not arrest him till February 23 in a drugs case.

A bench comprising Chief Justices NV Ramana, however, directed Majithia to surrender before a trial court after the Punjab assembly polls scheduled for February 20.

The court also asked trial court to hear and expeditiously decide Majithia’s regular bail plea after his surrender in the case.

Majithia was booked by Punjab police in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act on December 20 last year and his bail plea was rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court following which he approached the apex court.
