Mississauga: The City Council has lifted the ban on retail stores and has decided to allow such stores to operate on the locator in the city. Under the Federal Cannabis Act, it is legal in Canada to sell marijuana as entertainment and medicine.
Mayor Bonnie Crombie said the decision was made after mississauga examined the experience of retail cannabis stores in other cities over the past five years.
“We wanted the cities to have more control over the locations and licensing, but the experience of other cities has shown that those who have opened such stores have received a positive response,” he said.
He said that this will allow local residents to legally get access to Cannabis Retailers and will also provide new employment opportunities in the city.
It is worth mentioning that the use of Cannabis for entertainment was legalized at the federal level from October 17, 2018. At the time, Mississauga had decided to stay out of it and was not allowed to operate a retail cannabis store in the city.
