Jalandhar: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today visited families of those killed post extortion threats in Nakodar and Shahkot and said in case the AAP government did not take necessary corrective steps the SAD would be forced to launch an agitation to secure justice for them.
The SAD president visited the residence of Nakodar based businessmen Bhupinder Singh Chawla and police personnel Mandeep Singh near Shahkot, both of whom succumbed to bullets fired at them by extortionists. Family members of Bhupinder said they felt like leaving Punjab as they did not feel safe any longer. They disclosed that even though they had informed the police department about extortion calls being received by them the police could not trace the numbers or the persons involved.Mr Badal also demanded that a government job be given to next of kin of Bhupinder Chawla “.
Sukhbir Badal assured both families that the SAD would take up their case and ensure justice was done. “If need be we will launch a comprehensive Statewide agitation to demand action against extortionists and gangsters who are a law unto themselves in the State”.
Badal said this state of affairs had occurred because chief minister Bhagwant Mann and his cabinet colleagues had been busy campaigning for AAP in Himachal and Gujarat for the last two months. “Punjabis were left to their own fate and are suffering the consequences of this callousness”. He said the State had also lost investment even as home grown investors were leaving it to invest their money in other States. .
