Search underway for Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh; driver, uncle surrender

Chandigarh: The driver of Amritpal Singh, a radical preacher and pro-Khalistan supporter, and his uncle have surrendered before the Punjab Police on Monday.

According to the information, driver Harpreet and uncle Harjeet Singh surrendered before the police in Mehatpur. Harjeet Singh was Amritpal’s advisor.

On Saturday, Harjeet was driving a Mercedes car on Amritpal’s itinerary, he was also on the run. Harjeet says he and Amritpal parted ways when the Punjab Police chased them.

Efforts are on to nab Amritpal Singh. Security personnel conducted flag marches in several parts of the state and the administration extended the ban on mobile internet and SMS service till 12 noon on Monday.

Daljit Singh Kalsi, the alleged advisor and financier of Amritpal, who was arrested on Saturday, and three others were flown to Assam on Sunday in a special aircraft from Punjab where they will be lodged in dibrugarh central jail, police said.

Senior Punjab Police officials said law and order was under control and warned rumour mongers that it was monitoring fake news coming from various countries, states and cities.
