New Delhi: The Australian team has suffered a major setback before the Test series against India. Actually, the team’s main fast bowler Mitchell Starc will not play in the first Test against India.

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc has confirmed that he will not be able to play in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, as he is struggling with a finger injury.

Starc suffered an injury on his left finger in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa and then could not play in the last match of the series.

When Mitchell Starc was asked about his fitness, the fast bowler said, “I am on the verge of recovery, still a few weeks and then maybe I will meet the players in Delhi. Hopefully, we will win the first Test and reach Delhi.”

The first Test of the four-match Test series between India and Australia is to be played in Nagpur from 09 to 13 February and the second Test from 17 to 21 February in New Delhi.

Apart from Starc, Cameron Green has also been struggling with finger injury. However, Australian coach Andrew McDonald said Green will be given every opportunity to prove his fitness before the opening match of the series.
