Shops, mosque gate razed in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, 14 CRPF companies, 1000 jawans deployed

New Delhi: Municipal Corporation conducted an anti-encroachment drive in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Wednesday morning to demolish illegal constructions.

Though, a few hours later, the Supreme Court has halted the drive but it was too late for many including Ganesh Kumar Gupta, whose juice shop was razed by the authorities citing it illegally encroached.

However, speaking to media he said that he had all required documents that his shop had been allotted by Delhi Development Authority in 1977.

“I have papers but they did not listen and carried out the drive. They even violated the apex court’s orders. Many shops have been demolished, although all were not illegally encroached,” he told media.

According to the information, a juice corner, tobacco shop, a scrap dealer’s shop and the front gate of a mosque has been demolished by authorities today.

Locals alleged that it was a political motivated move by BJP government after a communal clash during Hanuman Jayanti procession a few days back.

Delhi MC initiated anti-encroachment drive after Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta claimed that most of the shops in Jahangirpuri were illegal and encroached by people.

Meanwhile, 14 CRPF companies, 1000 jawans deployed after demolition stopped by apex court and locals are furious over government’s action.
