Chandigarh: A special session of the Punjab Assembly has been convened today. The House will begin at 11 am. The Bhagwant Mann-led government had on Saturday informed the governor that issues like stubble burning, goods and services tax and power supply will be discussed in the session on September 27.
Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit had earlier refused to convene the one-day session. However, later when AAP leaders explained the issues to be raised during this time, the Governor gave his nod for the session.
Had accused the Governor of working at the behest of BJP
The Bhagwant Mann-led government had on Saturday informed the governor that issues like stubble burning, goods and services tax and power supply will be discussed in the session on September 27. The governor had on Friday sought details of the legislative business to be taken up in the session, to which Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had reacted strongly, saying “it is too much”.
The governor hit back, telling Mann that his legal advisor was not giving him enough information. The ruling AAP had hit out at the governor, saying he was acting at the behest of the BJP. Earlier, the governor had restrained the government from convening a special session to move a “confidence motion” on September 22.
Meanwhile, BJP will oppose the session called by the state government. Both its MLAs will go to the House but the BJP leader will hold a people’s assembly in Chandigarh. Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma announced this after the BJP’s core committee meeting on Monday.
At the same time, Captain Amarinder Singh said in the first press conference from the Punjab BJP stage in Chandigarh that Bhagwant Mann should have been ashamed to bring the majority proposal. Raghav Chadha sits in Chandigarh and works as CM. Everyone knows what the CM did in Germany and ashamed Punjabis across the world.
