SpiceJet hikes 10-15% airfares due to ATF price increase, rupee slide

New Delhi: Domestic airline SpiceJet has made airfare costly. The airline’s decision came after the price hike of ATF (Air Turbie Fuel).

SpiceJet Chairman and MD Ajay Singh has said that due to the fall in the rupee against the expensive ATF and dollar, he is left with no option but to make the airfare expensive as it is affecting the cost of operation.

He said that since June 2021, the price of air fuel has increased by 120 per cent.

Ajay Singh has demanded the Centre and the state government to reduce the tax on ATF. It is believed that after this decision of SpiceJet, other airlines may also decide to increase the airfare.
