Sukhbir Badal appears before SIT in Behbal Kalan firing case

Chandigarh: Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Badal appeared before the SIT of Punjab Police in Chandigarh on Tuesday in connection with Behbal Kalan shooting case. He went from Akali Dal’s office in Chandigarh to appear before the SIT. During this, veteran Akali leaders including Bikram Majithia were present with him.

He will be questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Punjab Police IG Naunihal Singh. Sukhbir Badal was the Deputy CM of Punjab at the time of firing in Behbal Kalan. The Home Department was also handling the same. Two people were killed in this firing. The SIT wants to know who gave the orders for firing on the Sikhs protesting against the sacrilege.

 

Firing case, 2 Sikhs were killed

On 1 June 2015, the holy ‘Saroop’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was stolen from Gurdwara Sahib in Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village, about five km from Bargadi, Punjab. In protest against this, Sikhs were demonstrating in village Behbal Kalan on Kotkapura Chowk and Kotkapura-Bathinda Road.

On 14 October 2015, the Punjab Police opened fire on protesters. Two people had died in this incident. The dead included Gurjit Singh, a resident of village Saranwa and Krishna Bhagwan Singh, a resident of Behbal Khurd. In this case, the Insaaf Morcha is also going on a continuous sit-in in Behbal Kalan for justice.

 

Will appear before the second SIT on September 14

Sukhbir Badal has also been summoned in the Kotkapura shooting incident. He will appear before the SIT headed by ADGP LK Yadav on September 14. Sukhbir was called by this SIT on August 30. However, he claimed that he didn’t get the summons and went on to appear in the Zira court in the case of blocking the highway. After which the SIT called him on 14 September.
