Vancouver: Punjabi candidates could not perform very well in the municipal elections of Surrey. This time three Punjabis Harry Bains, Mandeep Nagra and Pardeep Kaur Kunar have become councillors.

On the other hand, last time councillor Brenda Locke won the mayoral election by defeating other candidates, including then Mayor Doug McCallum and MP Sukh Dhaliwal.

Winning four councillors of his slate has also given him a majority. Sukh Dhaliwal came in fifth place.

Sukh Dhaliwal came in fifth place. Former MP Jini Sims (Joginder Kaur Hothi) finished fourth with double the votes of Sukh Dhaliwal while Amrit Biring and Kuldeep Pelia have also suffered humiliating defeats.
