Suspect in killing of Sikh family in California once worked for them; arrested

San Francisco: The suspect in the murder of four members of a Sikh family in the US had earlier worked for the family and had a long-standing dispute with the family.

The police called it a “very heinous act”. The relatives of the slain Sikh family are deeply shocked and saddened by the incident, police said. The investigating team has prepared a case against Jesus Manuel Salgado and he has been arrested on the count of four murder and four kidnapping charges.

The Merced County Sheriff said suspect had tried to commit suicide a day after the abduction.

Police said, “Relatives of the victim’s family are in mourning. We have to show them that we will give them justice. ”

The suspect, Jesus Manuel Salgado, 48, is still hospitalized (on Thursday), they said. Prosecutors will seek death penalty for him. The sheriff described it as one of the most heinous crimes in his 43-year tenure. He asked Salgado’s alleged accomplice to surrender himself to the police.

Sheriff Warnke said the family had a truck business in the city of Merced. A wreath-laying ceremony will be organised in his memory from Thursday to Sunday evening.

The bodies of eight-month-old Aruhi Dhari, her mother Jasleen Kaur (27), father Jasdeep Singh (36) and Jasdeep’s brother Amandeep Singh (39) were recovered from a garden near Indiana Road and Hutchinson Road on Wednesday evening. These people were abducted on Monday.

According to public records, the family owned Unison Trucking Inc. and their relatives reported that they had recently opened an office in a parking lot. The sheriff said there was a dispute between the suspect Salgado and the family for more than a year. There is no information yet about what Salgado worked there and how long he worked there.

Warneke said he believed the family was murdered within an hour of being kidnapped on Monday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect’s family had told authorities that Salgado had confessed to abducting the Sikh family. According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the suspect, Salgado, has previously been indicted on a robbery count. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison and released in 2015.
