Amritsar: SGPC member Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka today held a meeting with Delhi-based leader Kuldeep Singh Bhogal, who is active in ensuring justice to the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and punishment to the culprits.

SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has put the onus of Advocate Sialka for legal assistance in the matter on the demand of Kuldeep Singh Bhogal.

As many as 127 Sikhs were killed in the massacre in Kanpur, for which the Sikh community has been continuously demanding justice. Advocate Sialka said that according to Kuldeep Singh Bhogal, more than 70 people are accused in this case, while so far only about 34 accused have been caught. Chandigarh: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today paid homage to the martyrs of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi and other cities of the country. During this time, Hazoori Ragi Bhai Bhupinder Singh of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib performed Kirtan and ardas was performed by Bhai Baljit Singh.

On this occasion, Granthi Singh Sahib Giani Gurminder Singh of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib paid homage to the martyrs of November 1984 and termed it as a major attack on the Sikh community. He said that the tragedy of November 1984 was very unfortunate, which the nation can never forget.

SGPC secretary Partap Singh remembered the martyrs of November 1984 and said that it was a heinous act in which Sikhs were targeted by hatching a conspiracy.

SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that in November 1984, at the behest of the government of the day, the anger on the Sikhs was broken for several days, which shook every sensitive person of the world to the core.

This was an anti-humanity act done at the behest of the government, from which the Congress can never be absolved. He said that the culprits of the Sikh genocide should have been punished, on the contrary, the Congress is still patronising the culprits.

The appointment of the perpetrators of the Sikh genocide by giving them high positions in the Congress is an act of hurting the Sikh sentiments. He said that the Sikhs, who sacrificed more than 80 per cent of the country’s independence, are being cheated time and again and as soon as the month of November comes, the wounds of the Sikh community are healed, but the governments have not punished the culprits till date.
