Ottawa: In a tragic incident, four 4th-Year cadets of the Royal Military College of Canada travelling in a single vehicle lost their lives when their car entered the waters on campus at Point Frederick today.

The members who lost their lives are identified as Officer Cadet Jack Hogarth, Officer Cadet Andrei Honciu, Officer Cadet Broden Murphy and Officer Cadet Andrés Salek.

The government in a statement said that the loss is felt across the RMC community and we extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of our fallen cadets during this difficult time.

An investigation into this incident by Canadian Forces National Investigation Service is ongoing. No further information about the incident will be provided until the investigation is complete, officials said.

“I am heartbroken that four officer cadets lost their lives far too soon at RMC Kingston this morning. I offer my deepest condolences to their families, classmates and loved ones as they grieve such a profound loss, which is felt across our Canadian Armed Forces and country.” said Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence

CHANDIGARH: With a view to reduce road accidents and accidental death rate in the state, Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, on Friday, launched the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) project in the state, thus making Punjab the first state in the country to initiate ultra-modern technology equipped with GIS maps for reducing road accidents to the minimum level, improving road designs and identifying accidental black spots.

After inaugurating intra-departmental mobile application based project related to the Public Works Department (B&R), National Highways, Health and Family Welfare, National Highways Authority of India and Punjab Mandi Board during the brief function held at Punjab Bhawan here, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said, each day 10-12 road accident fatalities are being reported in Punjab, which is more than the National average of 8-9 deaths per day, adding that each life is precious for us and the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led government is committed for reducing road mortality to the minimum level.

Bhullar said that seven major states – Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan started using iRAD projects and the Punjab is first amongst all and in the country, which launched iRAD after integrating it with GIS maps with Police Station boundaries.

He main objective of this project was to create an Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) for compiling accident databases from the states and every part of the country. The project will implement data analysis techniques and analyze road accident statistics collected across the country and make various suggestions.

Chandigarh: In a tragic incident, three youths from Punjab’s Faridkot died in a car mishap near Sarnia in Ontario, Canada.

Deceased were identified as Gurinderpal Lidhar (31), Mono Town, Ontario, Sunny Khurana (24), Brentford, and Kiranpreet Singh Gill (22) of Barry Town.

According to the information, accident occurred after a van collided with a trailer on Arthur’s Wellington Road near Highway 6 in Ontario and two youths died on the spot while one succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

The trailer driver also sustained grave injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has hiked compensation of victims of Hit& Run motor accidents from April 1.

According to fresh notification, accident victims to ge enhanced compensation ( from Rs 12,500 to Rs 50,000 for grievous hurt and from Rs 25,000 to Rs 2,00,000 for death ).

The process of application for compensation and the release of payment to victims has also been made time bound . This scheme will supersede the Solatium Scheme, 1989 from 01st April, 2022 onwards, said a spokesperson.

Ministry has also published rules on 25.2.2022 regarding creation, operation, sources of fund etc. of the Motor Vehicles Accident Fund . This fund shall be used for providing compensation in case of Hit &Run Accident, treatment for accident victims and any other purpose, as may be specified by the Central Government.

New Delhi: At least 14 people died after their vehicle fell into a gorge near Sukhidhang Reetha Sahib road in Uttarakhand’s Champawat district on Tuesday. Another two people were injured in the accident.

The group was returning after attending a wedding, officials said.

A team of the State Disaster Response Force rushed to the spot and initiated the rescue operation.

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in a road accident in Champawat, Uttarakhand. The Prime Minister has also announced an ex-gratia from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the victims.

The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted, “PM @narendramodi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to an accident in Uttarakhand. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”

Chandigarh: Accused driver involved in collision with Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu’s car, leading to his death, has been granted bail by the Kharkhoda court in Haryana on Friday.

The court granted bail to truck driver Qasim, who was arrested in connection with Sidhu’s death in a road accident on KMP Expressway in Sonipat, was produced before the court by the Kharkhauda police on Friday. The police sought a two-day remand, but the court released him on bail.

On Tuesday, Punjabi artist Sidhu’s Scorpio car, who was on his way to Punjab with his girlfriend Reena Rai, travelling from Delhi via Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway, collided with a trolley near Pipli toll. Deep Sidhu died in the accident.

The police had registered a case against the the driver on the statement of his brother Mandeep Singh, a resident of Jagjit Nagar in Ludhiana, Punjab. The driver of the trolley, who was on the run since the incident, was arrested by Kharkhauda police from Delhi bypass on Thursday night. The accused has said that he was on his way from Kandhla in Gujarat to Muzaffarnagar in UP.

New Delhi: Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu died in a road accident on Tuesday, media reports said.

Sidhu, who came into the limelight from the farmers’ movement, was driving the white Scorpio himself.

According to the information, the road accident took place in Sonepat near Delhi and a woman was also traveling in his car.

According to the Haryana Police, Sidhu rammed his car into a standing truck near Pipli toll at Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway. The incident was reported to have taken place at 9.30 pm. Soon after the accident, he was taken to the hospital in Anandafan and doctors declared him brought dead.
