Ottawa: Following North Korea fired two ballistic missiles into waters off the east coast of the Korean Peninsula early Monday and warned of more to come unless the United States halts military drills with South Korea, Canada government urged them to end reckless provocations at once.

In a statement, Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that North Korea continues to violate United Nations Security Council resolutions. Its most recent missile launches, including the February 18, 2023, launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile that landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone, and the February 20 launch of two short-range ballistic missiles that landed in the East Sea, are acts of aggression that threaten regional and international peace and security.

She said, “Canada urges North Korea to engage in good-faith diplomacy and cease these reckless provocations.”

As part of its commitment under the Indo-Pacific Strategy, Canada will continue collaborating with our partners in the North Pacific region and elsewhere to strengthen regional stability in the Korean Peninsula, she added.
