New Delhi: Even though the protest of youngsters has diminished regarding the Agnipath Scheme, but all the opposition parties, including the Congress, are constantly opposing it.

Considering the attitude of the Opposition, in the Monsoon Session of the Parliament which is going to start from July 18, it is believed that there will be a commotion in the Parliament on this issue.

However, before the start of the session, the government is going to face the questions of the opposition on this issue.

A meeting of the Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry of Defense has been called on July 8. The meeting will be chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

According to the information, the agenda of this meeting is Agneepath Scheme. It is believed that in the meeting, the MPs will be given detailed information about the Agneepath scheme on behalf of the Ministry of Defense.

Information of the members of the Advisory Committee

The Chairman of the Advisory Committee is the concerned Minister of that Ministry. The committee currently has 13 Lok Sabha MPs and 7 Rajya Sabha MPs as members. This committee attached to the Ministry of Defense includes several senior leaders of the Opposition as members. These include 20 MPs including Mallikarjun Kharge, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, Sudip Bandopadhyay, Manish Tiwari, Farooq Abdullah and Rakesh Singh.

Will seek answers from the government on doubts

In such a case, it is decided that the opposition MP in the committee will ask questions from the government regarding the scheme and will seek clarification from the government on their doubts. The Consultative Committee is constituted by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and differs from the Standing Committee of Parliament in the sense that the Chairman of this Committee is the Minister of that Ministry.

Chandigarh: Led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Vidhan Sabha today passed a resolution urging the Union Government to immediately roll back the ‘Agnipath Scheme’ in the larger interest of the country thereby becoming the first state to take this historic initiative.

Moving a resolution in this regard on the floor of the house on Thursday, the Chief Minister read that the unilateral announcement of the Government of India (GoI) to introduce ‘Agnipath scheme’ in the Armed forces has witnessed widespread reactions across the country including Punjab.

He read that the Punjab Vidhan Sabha strongly feels that the scheme where youth will be employed in Armed forces only for a period of four years and out of which only 25% will be retained, is neither in the interest of national security nor of the youth of this country. Bhagwant Mann further read that this policy is likely to create dissatisfaction among the youth who wish to serve the Armed forces of the nation throughout their life.

The Chief Minister reminded the house that more than one lakh soldiers from Punjab serve the Armed Forces of the nation and a large number of them sacrifice their lives at altar of their motherland while safeguarding the borders of the country every year. He apprised the house that the youth of Punjab, known across the globe for their traits of valor and courage, consider it a matter of pride and privilege for them to serve their motherland by joining the Indian Armed Forces. However, Bhagwant Mann bemoaned that this scheme has crushed the ambitions of several youths of Punjab who have been aspiring to join the Armed Forces as regular soldiers.

The Chief Minister envisioned that the scheme also has the propensity to weaken the long standing espirit de corps of the Armed Forces.

“The Punjab Vidhan Sabha urges the Union Government to roll back the Agnipath Scheme immediately” read the resolution moved by the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile training his guns against the BJP led NDA government for this whimsical move, the Chief Minister, while participating in the debate, dared the BJP leaders to enroll their own sons as Agniveers before supporting this anti-youth move.

He said that those who are advocating this move should set an example by sending their sons first in the Army under the scheme. Bhagwant Mann said that in this way they will get a fresh young lot of Agniveers who will be saluting their leaders in their office, after a service of four years.

The Chief Minister said that this is an illogical move that will jeopardize the national security besides damaging the basic spirit of Indian Army. Bhagwant Mann advised the BJP leaders to stop building castles in air to suppot this irrational move which is detrimental to the interests of the country. He said that this scheme is against the ethos of love and passion of a youth for his country and Armed forces.

The Chief Minister asked the BJP leaders to explain that how will the country combat its infiltrators and enemies with an ‘Army on rent’. He cautioned them that this move will prove fatal for the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country in the coming times. Citing examples of how the Indian Army has a glorious tradition of taking care of the families of the martyred soldiers, Bhagwant Mann also asked the BJP leaders to explain that if any soldier, enrolled under the scheme, attains martyrdom during call of duty then who will take care of their families as there is no such provision in it.

The Chief Minister said that he will soon call on the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister to impress upon them for rolling back this move or referring it to experts Defence Committee.

He said that all the stakeholders should be taken on board before moving ahead on this dangerous move. “I will meet and convey them that they shall either roll back this scheme or people will force them to do so as in case of the draconian farm laws” added Bhagwant Mann.

He said that no one, except BJP leaders, have ever understood the merits of schemes like demonetisation, GST, draconian farm laws and other adding that ‘Agnipath’ is an addition to such baseless moves, which no one is able to understand. Bhagwant Mann said that it is unfortunate and unbelievable that a youth will join the Army after attaining age of 17 years and superannuate merely after four years at age of 21.

The Chief Minister said that ironically the youth who will be serving the country at prime of his youth will not get any pension or other benefits for this service. Bhagwant Mann said that this is a huge loss for the youth of the country who want to serve their motherland, either in freezing cold or boiling hot temperature, by joining the Armed forces on basis of their physical ability. He said that ‘Agnipath’ reflects the sorry state of affairs in the country as the party in power at centre is recklessly running its affairs without applying mind.

The Chief Minister said that this is grave injustice with the youth of the country which is not at all acceptable at any cost. New Delhi: Amid protests in many parts of the country over the Agnipath scheme for army recruitment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said many decisions may seem unfair at first but later they help in nation building later.

“Many decisions seem unfair at present but they will be instrumental in the construction of the country,” he said, though he made no direct reference to the Agnipath scheme.

It is worth mentioning that some organisations have called for a Bharat Bandh today to protest against the Agneepath scheme for recruitment in the Army. Due to the protests, the railways had to cancel more than 500 trains. Since the announcement of the Agnipath scheme, the arson and vandalism so far have caused a lot of damage to the country’s property. Amid the ongoing opposition to the scheme, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also announced to reserve 10 per cent jobs in the Central Armed Police Force and Assam Rifles for agniveers.

Agniveers in CAPFs and Assam Rifles have been given a relaxation of three years in the age limit. It is believed that this move will also make it easier to give jobs to the firemen in the paramilitary forces. The Indian Navy will provide employment opportunities in the Merchant Navy for the firemen. For this, the ship has also included six service routes by the Queen’s Ministry.

Malerkotla: Attacking opposition parties for patronising corruption and mafia, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has taken historic decisions in just three months which the previous governments failed to take in decades.

Mann said that corruption has now been stopped in government departments and the corrupt people to be lodged in jails.

Mann said that farmers sown direct paddy on 21 lakh acres and summer Moong crop on 1.25 lakh acres after the state government announced to start the procurement of the moong crop directly from farmers at a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 7,275 per quintal.

Holding road shows in Malerkotla and Mehal Kalan Assembly constituencies in support of party candidate Sarpanch Gurmail Singh, Mann urged people to ensure record-victory of Singh in the Sangrur by-election.

Lashing out at the Shiromani Akali Dal, Mann said that all senior leaders of Akali Dal were rejected by people in the assembly elections and now only their photos are missing from campaign posters in Sangrur while the SAD party will vanish from political map of Punjab in coming years.

Taking a dig at SAD chief Sukhbir Badal, Mann said that Badal used to talk about ruling Punjab for 25 years but now Akali Dal has only 3 MLAs. Even now they can come to the assembly on a scooter.

The Chief Minister said that the Union government must take back this scheme and allow the youth, who had cleared their physical test in last two years, to sit in the written exam.
