New Delhi: Air pollution continues to wreak havoc in the national capital of the country. Due to the air pollution spread in Delhi for the last several days, it has become difficult for people to breathe. Even today, the air quality in Delhi-NCR continued to fall on Wednesday morning. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Dhirpur, Delhi was recorded at 594, which is in the ‘severe’ category. Noida, UP also recorded an AQI in the ‘severe’ category (444) and Gurugram, Haryana recorded an ‘very poor’ air quality.

Delhi’s overall air quality index (AQI) was at 385 in the “very severe” category this morning, prompting the Delhi government to ban all construction and demolition activities in the national capital.

The air quality index was 444 in Noida (UP), 594 in ‘severe’ category, Dhirpur (Delhi) at 594 and ‘very poor’ category, 391 in Gurugram (Haryana). It was already being predicted that the air quality of the national capital would deteriorate in the coming days due to calm winds and other various weather conditions.

In a news conference on Sunday, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai had said that experts are predicting that the wind speed will decrease from November 1 and its direction will change. Based on that, it is predicted that the AQI beyond 400 will go into the severe category. Pollution levels usually rise around this time in the Delhi-NCR region mainly due to dust, bio-mass burning and changes in weather conditions and wind speed.
