Washington: Aircraft companies have cancelled more than 1,500 flights in the US on Thursday and it was considered to be one of the worst days ever in terms of travel during the summer vacations.

More than a third of flights have been affected at Lagardia airport in New York, according to tracking service FlightAware. More than a quarter of flights have been cancelled at Newark Liberty Airport near New Jersey.
