Chandigarh: Former Punjab Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal passed away today.

For the past few days, Badal has been admitted to the ICU of Fortis Hospital in Mohali. His condition was stated to be stable for the past several days and he took his last breath on Tuesday late evening.

Badal was CM of Punjab from 1970 to 1971, from 1977 to 1980, from 1997 to 2002, and from 2007 to 2017. He is also the patron of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), a Sikh-centered regional political party. He also remained President of Akali Dal from 1995 to 2008, when he was replaced by his son Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) disciplinary committee has taken a major action against former MP Jagmeet Brar and cancelled his primary membership from the party. Jagmeet Brar has been expelled from the SAD after he failed to appear before the disciplinary committee today.

The disciplinary committee has taken strict action due to the anti-party activities of Jagmeet Brar.

Sikandar Singh Maluka, chairman of the SAD’s disciplinary committee, said that the committee gave Brar a lot of respect and time. But, however, had nothing to offer. He was made senior vice-president, made a core committee member, but he could not live up to the previous nature. He said that it is easy to take action against anyone but indiscipline does not run the party. He said Brar did not come even after taking time. He was given many opportunities.

Virsa Singh Valtoha said Brar had committed another act of indiscipline by attending a meeting held by Bibi Jagir Kaur. Senior SAD leader and former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar had on December 6 expressed his inability to appear before the SAD’s disciplinary committee. He called up the chairman of the disciplinary committee Sikander Singh Maluka and requested him to extend the time of the meeting.

On this, he was directed to appear before the disciplinary committee at the party office in Chandigarh at 1 pm on December 10 instead of December 6, but he did not appear even today as per the scheduled time.

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today suspended Bibi Jagir Kaur from the party. A show-cause notice has also been served to her seeking a reply within 48 hours.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Shiromani Akali Dal’s disciplinary committee. Bibi Jagir Kaur had gone beyond the party’s decision and announced to contest the Elections of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee( SGPC).

Daljit Singh Cheema and Surjit Singh Rakhra tried to convince her but she remained stick to her decision.

After that, a meeting of the disciplinary committee of the party was held today, in which Bibi Jagir Kaur has been suspended from the party.

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal today said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Punjab Police has not summoned party president Sukhbir Singh Badal for questioning in connection with the 2015 Kotakpura police firing incident, but they are ready to cooperate in the investigation.

Badal asked the SIT to clarify whether the notice circulated in the media about summoning was issued by him or not.

Lashing out at SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, AAP chief sposkperson Malvinder Singh Kang questioned Badal that why he is evading inquiry and not appearing before SIT in Kotakpura firing incident if he is honest and nothing to conceal in this case.

He said that everyone knew the involvement of Dera Sacha Sauda in sacrilege cases of Sri Guru Granth Sahib but Badal family gave them clean chit and Sikh Sangat has been waiting for justice for seven years. But now the decisive Mann government will deliver justice to the people of Punjab in sacrilege cases and firing incidents.

He categorically said that AAP will take action against all people including senior politicians after proper inquiries as per the law and no one will be targeted as AAP is not here for political vendetta but to provide a reformed system in the state.

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal’s disciplinary committee, which was established after the dissolution of all the wings and committees of the Akali Dal, held its first meeting here today and warned the leaders who gave public statements of action.

In the disciplinary committee meeting under the leadership of Sikandar Singh Maluka, Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Mantar Singh Brar and Dr. Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi held. During the meeting, a serious discussion was held regarding maintaining discipline within the party. Meanwhile, it was decided that any kind of anti-party activity will not be tolerated by the Disciplinary Committee and strict action will be taken against it.

Maluka said that no organization can move forward without discipline and anyone who goes outside the party and speaks against the party, only aims to weaken the power of the party.

He said that the committee has scrutinized some complaints of party indiscipline received in the past and this work will continue in the next meetings as well. If the committee feels that there is a need for action against someone, first he will be given an opportunity to present his side by issuing a notice and if the response is not satisfactory, further action will be taken.

He also appealed to the district and circle units of the party to inform the committee if any anti-party activity comes to their notice.

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal has dissolved the entire organisational structure of the party in pursuance of the recommendations of the party’s poll review committee.

According to the party spokesperson, all the committees including the core committee have been dissolved in which the working committee, all the office bearers and all other wings have also been dissolved.

It may be recalled that the previous day the core committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal had discussed and accepted the report of the poll Committee and had also authorised party president Sukhbir Singh Badal to implement the recommendations.

The Committee had recommended that the organisational structure of the party should be dissolved and rebuilt and a new spirit should be instilled in the party in accordance with the values other than panthic and Punjabi interests and in doing so, the sentiments of the lower level workers, cadre and leadership of the party should be taken care of.

The committee had recommended that the organisational structure of the party be restructured afresh to infuse a new spirit into the party. The recommendations emphasised the need to pay special attention to the aspirations of the youth. The party president will now hold consultations with senior colleagues as well as workers and cadre to restructure the party’s organisational structure.

Badal will hold consultations with various Punjabi and Panthic personalities, especially intellectuals, writers, religious and political speakers, opinion makers and representatives of various sections, including farmers, employees, students, teachers, traders, goldsmiths and youth.

Jalandhar: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today asked chief minister Bhagwant Mann to stop trying to befool Punjabis by changing name plates of buildings and schemes while castigating the chief minister for trying to secure cheap publicity by converting 74 Suvidha Kendras established by the erstwhile SAD government into Aam Aadmi clinics.

He also condemned the AAP government for making the 300 units per month free power scheme a non-starter by excluding 90 per cent of Punjabis from it.

Attending a function at the residence of former SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur at Begowal, the SAD president said the AAP government had not only made provision of Mohalla clinics a joke by opening 75 clinics in a State which had 13,000 villages but had also deprived people of the unique facility of Suvidha Kendras under which 2,000 centres were established to provide 78 essential services under one roof to the people of the State.

Asking the chief minister not to piggy ride on schemes initiated by the earlier SAD government, Sukhbir Badal said it was unfortunate that the AAP government had already borrowed Rs 10,000 crore but had nothing to show for it. “This money could have been easily used to strengthen the 3,0000 medical sub centres and dispensaries providing medicines to the people.

Similarly the government needs to further strengthen infrastructure in civil hospitals at the district level besides ushering super speciality services”.

Badal also asked the chief minister to reflect on how the Mohalla Clinic scheme had failed miserably during the Covid pandemic in Delhi.

He also condemned the chief minister for deriving cheap publicity from the change in name plates of Suvidha Kendras. “It does not suit the status of a chief minister to stoop so low and seek publicity for a non-event in a desperate bid to redeem the fortunes of his failed government. It would be better for the chief minister to take up development activities as per requirement of Punjabis instead of going by the dictates of the AAP high command which had already reduced him to a rubber stamp”.

Speaking about the 300 units per month free power scheme launched by the AAP government, Badal said it had been implemented with so many riders that it would not benefit anybody. “The riders have been planned in such a manner that only a very small fraction of the weaker sections can avail of the scheme. This is even less than the number who used to get 200 units power per month free of cost across the board without any riders during the erstwhile SAD government”.

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to tell Punjabis whether the guarantee given by Delhi Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta on behalf of the party that Punjab’s river waters would flow to each and every field in Haryana had been given with his blessings.

Terming the development as shocking, senior SAD leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said “the Delhi MP, who is from Haryana, could have only given such an iron clad guarantee if he had been authorized to do so by AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal. The issue is whether the Punjab chief minister was taken in the loop or not. Bhagwant Mann should make his stand clear on this issue immediately as Punjabis will never allow AAP to barter away its core interests for electoral gains in Haryana ”.

Asserting that AAP was showing its true colours, Dr Cheema said “it seems this party can betray anyone, even crores of Punjabis who gave it an overwhelming mandate by electing 92 of its legislators to the State assembly. It is only one month since this victory and already AAP is taking Punjabis for granted by announcing that it would give away the river waters of the State to Haryana. It seems AAP is bent upon sprinkling salt on the wounds of Punjabis who are yet to come to terms with the snatching of their river waters by the Congress earlier”.

Stating that the SAD would never allow this conspiracy to succeed, Dr Cheema said “our river waters are our life blood. We have always maintained that we do not have one extra drop of water to spare. Much of our own land is facing the brunt of water shortage with 109 out of the 138 blocks in the State being put in the red zone due to declining water table. The SAD has led agitations to protect the river waters of the State. This includes the Kapoori Morcha as well as challenging the validity of Section 78 of the Punjab Reorganization Act which was interpreted to give control of Punjab’s river waters to the centre by then chief minister Parkash Singh Badal in 1979. The SAD led government also handed back the land which was acquired for construction of the Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) canal back to farmers in 2016. Even now we are committed to take every recourse possible to ensure not a single drop of water is released to Haryana. We will not let our land be turned into a desert”.
