Former Punjab education minister Tota Singh passes away

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal’s senior vice-president, former cabinet minister and member SGPC Jathedar Tota Singh passed away today.

He was 81 years old. He breathed his last at Fortis Hospital in Mohali. Former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, party president Sukhbir Singh Badal and other leaders shared their condolences with the grieved family on the passing away of Jathedar Tota Singh.

President Sukhbir Singh Badal said that with the passing away of Jathedar Tota Singh, where Punjab and the party have suffered an irreparable loss, I personally will always feel the lack of a good mentor.

Court extends Majithia’s judicial custody till March 22

MOHALI: In yet another set back for senior Akali leader Bikram Majithia, the Mohali court has sent Majithia to judicial custody till March 22.

Majithia, who is facing charges in a drug case, had moved a bail application but the court has extended the remand after the arguments of the lawyers.

Majithia, who had earlier approached the court, said that such false cases could not break his morale.

“The Congress government tried its best to break him as they did not want me to contest the elections. The truth will prevail and this case is just political vendetta to malign my image,” he told media.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ – ਨਸ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਚ ਜ਼ਮਾਨਤ ‘ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਆਏ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਆਗੂ ਅਨਵਰ ਮਸੀਹ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਹੱਤਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖ਼ਲ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਗੌਰਤਲਬ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਬੀਤੇ ਸਾਲ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਦੇ ਸੁਲਤਾਨਵਿੰਡ ਰੋਡ ਤੋਂ ਐੱਸ. ਟੀ. ਐੱਫ. ਨੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਮਾਤਰਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ । ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਨੇਤਾ ਅਨਵਰ ਮਸੀਹ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ । ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਅਨਵਰ ਮਸੀਹ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ । ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਨਵਰ ਮਸੀਹ ਨੂੰ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਾ ਪਿਆ।

ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਨਵਰ ਮਸੀਹ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜ਼ਮਾਨਤ ‘ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਆ ਕੇ ਦਰਜ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਰੱਦ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੱਧਰ ‘ਤੇ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ । ਅੱਜ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਅਨਵਰ ਮਸੀਹ ਨੇ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੀ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਹੱਤਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ । ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸਦੇ ਸਮਰਥਕਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਦੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਦਾਖ਼ਲ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।
